Clonetab Heterogeneous Replication for Databases

Automation of Heterogeneous Replication & related tasks, securely

Clonetab heterogeneous database replication module is powered by Oracle Goldengate replication engine and can replicate source database instances to target database instances at table, schema or database level, with full automation. Normal shell scripts created for performing replication may leave sensitive passwords in flat files. Also they may not have audit trail to track who is doing replication and for what purpose. The support of these scripts adds up to the DBA schedules. Using Clonetab for heterogeneous database replication eliminates these issues. Clonetab heterogeneous database replication module can replicate Oracle or non Oracle database source instance to Oracle or non Oracle target database instance and source and target databases can be on different operating systems.

Customize your replication: The custom scripts option facilitates adding subtasks to meet enterprise custom replication needs.

Implementation Modes: Clonetab appliance for replication of Oracle database is available in four forms (1) as a virtual software appliance wherein the Clonetab provided ovf template can be imported in to VMWare or similar virtualization environments, as a virtual machine, which usually takes less than 20 minutes for bringing up the Clonetab server (2) Installer version for installation on to Linux servers (OEL or RHEL) meeting pre-reqs (3) Linux Hardware Appliance - pre installed and configured on a physical Linux server or (4) Solaris Hardware Appliance - pre installed and configured on physical Solaris server, usually Fujitsu M-10 server sold by Oracle. Customers may download the software and install it on a physical or virtual machine with Oracle Enterprise Linux or Redhat Enterprise Linux operating systems. More information is available in Clonetab installation and implementation guides.

What versions of Oracle Database are supported: The Replication module for Oracle database appliance supports databases on Oracle 10g, 11g or 12c on Oracle Enterprise Edition, Standard Edition or Standard Edition One, per the Oracle's certification matrix. Our development teams would be glad to customize our solutions to meet customer requirements on older versions as well.

What Operating Systems are supported: The Oracle Database versions installed on most Linux/Unix platforms including but not limited to OEL, RHEL, AIX, Solaris (Sparc/Intel), HP-UX, Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) are supported by Clonetab replication appliance for Oracle databases. Currently Clonetab replication Module does not support Oracle databases on Microsoft Windows platforms.

What sources can replication module use for replicating targets: The replication module can replicate from live production or similar source instance. Our customers have the option to purchase cloning and replication combination solutions to speed up the initial replication set up. With this option, the database is initially cloned and then replication starts to kick in from a given SCN, Sequence and so on.

Support for RAC: The Clonetab replication module can replicate a RAC or non RAC source to RAC or non RAC target instance.

Support for ASM: Clonetab supports ASM file systems.

Support for Engineered Systems: Clonetab supports Exadata and Exalogic systems. Please refer to appropriate section under Products menu on this portal.

What are the Pre-Reqs: Server to which the Oracle database target instance has to be replicated on to must have the Oracle Database while operating system and OS patches need not be the same as source and must meet the Oracle recommendations as to OS/patches for creating Oracle database instances. Both the source and target instances must be up and running and must be fully functional. More information is available in Clonetab replication module implementation guide.

How long does it take to replicate target instance from a given source: When used with combination solutions such as Clonetab CTClone module for initial cloning, for release 10g, 11g or 12c of Oracle database most customers can set up their end-to-end cloning followed by replication in couple of hours. When used with the base module, although clone is done in a silent mode, it may take longer when compared with CTClone and the amount of time taken depends on the database size, storage/network throughput and host of other environment related factors. The time estimates does not include time consumed for installation of Clonetab software, initial set up and execution of any custom scripts. Some environments may require longer time to set up replication.

Is there a Combination Database Virtualization Solution and Replication from Clonetab: Clonetab offers CTClone - our database virtualization solution, which offers several advantages over base module, including but not limited to high-speed cloning, virtualization based on snapshot cloning which drastically reduces storage utilization and so on. This would drastically reduce the overall implementation and set up of replication. Please refer to CTClone section under products on this portal.
